Does your paddock have ragwort and/or other perennial weeds ie thistles, docks and buttercups? Did you know there is now a new, safe way to eliminate them in a ready to use, high quality sprayer?

Ragtime fork for digging up ragwort

Ragwort
In recent years, many local authorities have abandoned weed control in grass verges. The result has been an upsurge in ragwort – you may have noticed for one plant can produce 100,000 seeds which are spread by the wind. Ragwort contains alkaloid poisons that can build up in the liver of grazing animals and cause death. Even relatively small amounts can be fatal.

Treatment
Ragwort can be dug up or treated chemically:

  • If dug up, there are forks available which make digging easier but roots may be left in the ground which will sprout
  • Ragtime should be applied when ragwort is at the rosette stage – ie before any erect growth takes place. This is between end of March/late April or September/October
